Did you know?

In London by 2014 the working age population will be over 80% Black, Asian and Majority Ethnic. With over 93% of all businesses in London being "micro and start-up businesses"

Welcome to Engage Enterprise

From its origins in the United States in the 1970’s, Supplier Diversity – a proactive business process to source goods and services from under used suppliers - is becoming increasingly well known in the United Kingdom.

Engage enterprise seeks to encourage organisations to look at their supply chains and consider the impact and benefits to be gained by contracting with Micro Businesses - Black, Asian and minority owned businesses.

The potential opportunities for growth of Micro/BAME and minority owned businesses, particularly those based in London and the UK, is significant.

Engage enterprise offers not only a website which promotes and supports local businesses, supplier diversity, enterprise, entrepreneurs and innovation, but also hosts networking events for SME's and Micro/BAME and large organisations to link-up and network.

Your comments and contributions are welcome. We look forward to hearing from you.

engage promoting and supporting supplier diversity

Engage magazine first published in 2006 to support supplier and business diversity. The whole area of 'Supplier Diversity' was relatively unknown in the UK. We aimed to encourage large organisations to examine their supply chains and consider the impact and benefits to be gained by contracting with BAME and micro businesses. On Tuesday 19th April 2011 Engage Enterprise
hosted a free networking event which was supported by Amey and Transport for London (TFL). This innovative event emerged from discussions between Engage Enterprise and Khadijah Rafiq the Equality and Diversity Business Partner for Amey.

This excellent networking and growth opportunity started the process to enable Micro and Minority owned businesses to share in the commercial mainstream of both the public and private sectors, through the support of Amey and TFL’s suppliers.

The event, held at West Ham Football Club Conference Suite, was well attended by Micro and Minority owned businesses as well as Amey and Transport for London (TFL) suppliers.  Feedback from the attendees confirmed that the speakers’ presentations clarified the issue of Supplier Diversity and why it matters, particularly in this context.

Speakers on the night were:
- John Lulham, Head of Contracts and Procurement (Streets) Surface Transport (TfL)
- Mike Lindsay, Head of Procurement (Amey)
- Khadijah Rafiq, Equality & Diversity Business Partner (Amey)
- Craig Cordice, Director (Engage Enterprise UK)
- Ghow Ratnarajah, Director (Braille Translations)

Engage Enterprise also took the opportunity to signpost its innovative brokerage system which aims to cut out the ‘red-tape’ that deters Micro and Minority owned businesses from participating in the procurement process.
